1. IS WATERMELON GOOD FOR WEIGHT WATCHERS ?
Because 90% of a Watermelon’s weight is water, it’s one of the best fruits to eat if you’re trying to lose weight.
A 100-gram serving contains only 30 calories and you can afford to eat 300 grams of it which is a hefty amount.
It’s also a great source of an amino acid called arginine, which helps burn fat quickly.

The over consumption could potentially cause nausea, diarrhea, indigestion and bloating.
3. IS WATERMELON HIGH IN SUGAR ?
Watermelons are the iconic summer fruit. They may seem like a treat, but they’re low in sugar. Watermelon typically has a GI( Glycemic index) of 72 but a GL ( Glycemic Load) of 2 per 100 gram serving. The GL of watermelon is low, and it can be eaten in moderation like all fruits as part of a balanced diabetic meal.
4. WHY NOT TO DRINK WATER AFTER EATING WATERMELON ?
As per Ayurveda, it may adversely affect your Gastrointestinal tract.
The other aspect is – microbes or bacteria need water and sugar to develop and expand, so when you have water after the watermelon, it further dilutes the natural sugar which is needed for the healthy Gut bacteria and may hamper their growth.
5. WHY WE SHOULD SOAK MELON IN WATER BEFORE CONSUMING ?
Fruits like watermelon, mango and papaya are known to produce heat in the body and this excessive heat may affect the digestive system, resulting in diarrhoea and skin infections. Soaking fruits in water reduces the natural heat (taasir) and makes it safe for the body.
6. WHAT IS THE BEST TIME TO CONSUME ?
As per Ayurveda, you can have it in the morning between 10 am to 12 pm as breakfast or between breakfast and lunch OR can even have it as an evening snack post lunch, before 5 pm.
Avoid having watermelon at night or with meals and in combination with other fruits.
