DUSSEHRA- GET RID OF 10 COMMON EVILS

This Dussehra – Get Rid Of 10 Common Evils Leave a comment

Triumph over evil—is what Dussehra is all about! The festival fundamentally celebrates Lord Rama’s victory over the 10-headed demon king Ravana, but this Dussehra, let’s focus on evils inside us which are harming the house of our soul means our body’s wellbeing.

According to me we all are being addicted to these common evils:

  1. HIGH SALT:

Eating too much salt can have a range of effects. It may cause bloating, severe thirst, and temporary rise in blood pressure, and may increase the risk of stomach cancer, heart disease. Some people may be affected by high salt intake more severely than others.

Take away:   Limit our salt intake to about one teaspoon(5gm) in a day. Also look for Sodium rich packed foods which should be discouraged.

  1. EXCESS SUGAR:

Eating too much added sugar may lead to early aging and wrinkled skin along with other known side effects like weight gain, rise in blood sugar and an increased risk of heart disease. It is highly inflammatory. For these reasons, added sugar should be kept to a minimum whenever possible, which is easy when you follow a healthy diet based on whole foods.

Take away:   Limit it to maximum of 2 teaspoon.

  1. PROCESSED FOOD:

Heavily processed foods often include unhealthy levels of added sugar, sodium and fat. These ingredients make the food we eat taste better, but too much of them leads to serious health issues like obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure , diabetes and other inflammatory diseases

Take away:   Prepare dishes from raw ingrediants rather that ready to cook or eat.

  1. DEEP FRIED FOOD:

When foods are fried, they become more calorically dense because the outer part of the food loses water and absorbs the fat / oil. The oils in which foods are fried can contain transfat, which has been shown to raise your LDL.

Take away:   opt for boiled, steamed, roasted foods.

  1. JUNK FOOD:

Junk food is addictive in nature. Eating junk food on a regular basis can lead to an increased risk of obesity and chronic diseases like cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and some cancers.

Take away:   Focus on eating home cooked meals.

  1. LATE NIGHT MUNCHING:

When you eat late, the calories you intake don’t get digested well as our body follows circadian rhythm.  Eating late regularly conditions your body to store the calories as fat, which leads to weight gain. This can also give you problems like indigestion and heartburn and lethargies.

Take away:   Have your last meal as early as possible.

  1. SEDENTARY LIFESTYLE:

You may lose muscle strength and endurance, because you are not using your muscles as much. Your bones may get weaker and lose some mineral content. Your metabolism may be affected, and your body may have more trouble breaking down fats and sugars. Your immune system may not work as well.

Take away:   Move and stretch every half an hour.

  1. ANGER & STRESS:

Anger triggers the body’s ‘fight or flight’ response. Other emotions that trigger this response include fear, excitement and anxiety. The adrenal glands flood the body with stress hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol. It may play havoc inside your body and metabolism.

Take away:   Stay cool and calm in awkward situations.

  1. EXCESS SCREEN TIME:

Too much screen time can lead to obesity, sleep problems, chronic neck and back problems, depression, anxiety and lower test scores in children. We should limit screen time to 1 to 2 hours per day. Adults should also try to limit screen time outside of work hours.

Take away:   Fix your time for Digital Detox.

  1. IRREGULAR SLEEP PATTERN:

A new study finds that irregular sleeping patterns, including catch-up sleep, can negatively affect the body’s metabolism, which controls how we function and use energy. It also puts us at a higher risk for chronic diseases like diabetes and others. Our body goes on healing mode during sound sleep.

Take away:   quality sleep for nearly 7 hours at night is needed.

Hope we would be able to get rid of these evils from our lifestyle as its our fundamental duty to take care of ourselves.
